Cinnamon Vegetarian Supports LA Works Day 2010

Cinnamon Vegetarian will be providing free lunch to all volunteers who participate in LA Works's 18th Annual event which is LA's longest-running day of corporate and community service.  This year, LA Works aims to beautify the historic neighborhood of Cypress Park.

Cinnamon Vegetarian at "Fiscally Green Cuisine" Panel

On Thursday, April 1st, our very own Catering Manager and consulting Chef Chris Rodriguez represented Cinnamon Vegetarian on the panel of "Fiscally Green Cuisine" in Beverly Hills. The panel discussion, sponsored by the Sustainable Business Council and Stonefield Josephson, Inc., consisted of local restauranteurs including Ann Gentry, Chef and founder of one of our favorite organic vegan restaurants Real Foods Daily. The panelists discussed ways in which owners have adopted practices supporting carbon reduction and eco-sustainability and the impact of their efforts on their businesses economy.

Chris discussed how serving vegetarian and vegan meals has a significant impact on our environment. "Any opportunity that allows us to illustrate to people the stunning cost savings of eliminating meat and dairy from their diet over a lifetime, plus discuss the significant impact on the environment brought about by eating even one vegetarian meal per week, we take that opportunity," said Rodriguez.

Cinnamon Vegetarian, besides serving up edibles that are locally sourced and served fresh each day, is a partner of CaterGreen! and we deliver all of our to-go orders in a biodegradable Bagasse shell styrofoam and cornstarch-based cups.

"The politics of health and eating right needs to be understood, not just in terms of comparing how many calories of fossil fuel it takes to raise beef or pork as opposed to growing soy beans, but by realizing how it effects health and health care," said Rodriguez. We want to be a model alternative that fills the disparities in providing healthy and affordable food to the disadvantaged communities East of the River."

Cinnamon provided one of our signature dishes Tofu con Nopales and Ceviche for guests of the panel to sample during the event.

B Wishes and John Trujillo are a duo that hail from Southern Oregon and are known nationally for their work with the legendary counter-culture reggae-rock band The Toyes. B Wishes records and performs solo, as a duo or fronting the B Wishes Band featuring John Trujillo on vocals and bass guitar.

Sharing the bill will be local Los Angeles minstrel Dimitri Fremont.

Dimitri Fremont is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. A prolific and gifted songwriter, Fremont's music and lyrics recall the early folk style of Bob Dylan. Dimitri is known locally for his sincere and emotional live performances, where he plays both original and cover tunes.
